research
Our online marketing research offering offers insight into your market, your employees and staff, the effectiveness of your advertising and any aspect of your consumer. Our offering includes research in the following areas:
Online Insight Communities
The next phase in the evolution of qualitative research has arrived. Gather extensive qualitative feedback from custom online communities in a fun, engaging and collaborative way.
MROC: Market Research Online Community -
The Columinate online research community offering is a fully managed research service, from conceptualisation and development right through to the eventual analysis and reporting.
What is an Online Insight Community?
These communities convene in a private virtual site with social network and research capabilities, where hundreds or even thousands of invited customers or employees regularly spend time engaging in research activities, brainstorming ideas, offering advice, sharing experiences and feelings, discussing trends, and helping you better understand your business and related marketing issues. An Insight Community (also called MROC – Market Research Online Community) is able to offer insights at a fixed cost per month (we call it a research buffet), making it particularly commercially viable when compared to more traditional modes of inquiry. Columinate can systematically gather extensive qualitative, ethnographic and even quantitative data over a period of time to present its clients with actionable insights in tailor-made reports.
This method makes use of a platform similar to a social network, so aside from the research topics initiated by the researchers, members are free to post photos and videos, blog or start new discussions. MROCs are thus an excellent platform for co-creation and allow brands to see opportunities they might have missed.
MROCs provide an environment where brands can listen to what their consumers are saying as well as create an enjoyable process for the participants. They have been called a “focus group on steroids” - indicating how the approach improves on current qualitative methods.
Because of the flexibility and depth of the approach, MROCs enable exploration on a wide variety of research topics/domains including: customer satisfaction, concept testing, creative idea generation/brainstorming, employee research (climate & culture), website development, communications development and brand engagement. In essence, anyone in need of qualitative (and even quantitative) insights will find this technique extremely useful and valuable.

Online and Panel Surveys -
Instantly survey thousands of profiled consumers. Insightful and cost-effective quantitative research in 7 to 14 days? It’s possible...
Online Surveys: these offer a quick and cost-effective way to solicit quantitative feedback from consumers or employees compared to face-to-face or telephonic research. For exceptional representation of your organisation, Columinate has a skilled in-house design team to brand all surveys and invitations sent to online survey participants. We also utilise a sophisticated system to monitor and track email invitations sent to participants in order to maximise response rates.
Online Panel Surveys: these allow you to gain insights from our panel of pre-profiled consumers, which is representative of the country's online population, both quickly and cost-effectively. Once a questionnaire has been signed off, you can expect top-line results to be delivered within a day or two, and a full report in 7-14 days!
Contact us for details on our surveys or statistics on our panel.
Website Research -
Improve your website’s effectiveness with visitors’ feedback.
Internet penetration is growing rapidly in South Africa and websites are becoming regular and important customer interfaces. The effectiveness of the website design and functioning impact the user experience which plays a key role in the ensuring return visits and healthy brand perceptions. This highlights the importance of measuring and managing the website visitor satisfaction in order to gain a proactive advantage.
Whether you are an e-commerce client, a large corporate or an SME - the effectiveness of your website has never been as paramount as now.
The most prevalent ways of measuring website effectiveness currently involves tracking analytics; time spent on the site and hits, which some would argue is sufficient information to determine success. However, analytics are often flat metrics that do not provide real insight into why users like or dislike the particular website or page. It also gives no insight into the emotive aspects of website visitor's experience.
Enter SITEisfaction
Through reviewing academic literature and case studies, both locally and abroad, Columinate devised a website satisfaction model that accounts for over 80% of the variance in the overall satisfaction score. The model is called SITEisfaction. SITEisfaction informs the client:
What changes to the site will enhance your visitors' level of satisfaction
Which aspects of the site are most important for driving customer satisfaction
Strengths, weaknesses, opportunities and threats of your visitors' experience
Which visitor segments are most/least satisfied and why
What drives loyalty and revisits to the site
What proportion of visitors are loyal to the site
How your site impacts market perceptions of your brand
Which, when, and why visitors are coming to your site
How easily visitors can find the specific pages or sections they are seeking
Suggestions for improving the site in visitors own words
The process is extremely flexible and can be administered in a number of ways to ensure you get optimal results. The Columinate team handles everything from start to finish, integrating research and IT.
