Columinate (Pty) Ltd, specialist online market research firm, has appointed Henk Pretorius as CEO of the company. The move comes after the company has shown significant growth since its inception in 2008. Originally founded by Pretorius and Elna Smit in 2008, the company has been jointly managed by the two co-founders for the past 4 years. Following a 600% turnover growth in the last two years and a significant increase in its staff complement, the company decided to appoint a CEO and Pretorius was the best candidate for the job.
Pretorius stated: “Providing strategic direction during our current rapid growth while maintaining our boutique and agile service delivery will be my main focus. Another key objective is to retain our reputation for relevant innovation. This remains paramount to the business to ensure we continuously meet our clients’ needs in better, faster and more cost-effective ways.”
Pretorius comes with a wealth of experience in the market research field, in both the quantitative and qualitative domains. He is known for innovations in the field, including running the first Market Research Online Community (MROC) in South Africa. Pretorius also has a strong academic background which includes a B.A. Psychology and English (Cum Laude), Honours in Psychology (Cum Laude), Master’s Degree in Research Psychology and a research internship at Harvard University. He is also currently a PhD candidate in Psychology at the University of Cape Town and is a registered research psychologist with the Health Professions Council of South Africa (HPCSA). He lectures in research methods at two universities and is a regular speaker at industry conferences. In 2009, Henk won the Best First Time Speaker and Best Overall Paper awards at the Southern African Marketing Research Association (SAMRA) conference. He has published papers in various popular marketing magazines and industry journals including Marketing Mix, Advantage and the Southern African Journal of Marketing Research.
