CONNECTED SOUTH AFRICANS: THE WHAT, WHERE AND WHY

Welcome to the Columinate South African Internet Usage and Attitude Study, 2016. On 1 October 2016, Columinate celebrates its eighth year as South Africa’s first full-service digital market research agency. We have a lot to thank the internet for; indeed, we exist because of the internet, so we conducted a survey to uncover
people’s internet habits.

This e-book is an eighth birthday gift, from Columinate, to anyone who may be interested in stats about online user behaviour. And, although there’s no such thing as a free lunch, you’re getting the e-book for nothing, because it’s our party and we can give away valuable data if we want to. We’re nice that way.

FIVE YEARS OF SOUTH AFRICAN DIGITAL BANKING INSIGHTS

Since 2012 the annual Columinate Digital Banking SITEisfaction® study has surveyed close to 10 000 South Africans about their behaviours and experiences with local digital banking. It is ensured that the sample each year is demographically representative of the local digital banking population. All five years have focused on online banking conducted through the banks’ websites. A further study was introduced in 2015, to investigate banking customers’ habits and experiences with mobile banking (including tablets, mobile apps and mobi-sites). The SITEisfaction® study focuses on customers’ experiences with the five main consumer banks, namely Absa, Capitec, FNB, Nedbank and Standard Bank.
